The idea of the hermaphrodite who has fully functioning male and female organs and is (theoretically) capable of self-fertilization is a myth, though a very persistent one, which has long exercised a fascination over the human mind.
Human hermaphrodites do exist in various form but are very rare. When a child is born with an ambiguous genitalia, he will be assigned to the most likely gender, with, possibly, some surgical tidying up.

Yes and sometimes they ending up having psychological and emotional distress because the parents choose the wrong sex for them, it has been documented over Discovery channel one day.
man… that’s craaayzy stuff… i’d never let surgeons to decide about anything like that.
not to mention to cut something.
that cut is remembered a life long. no escape.
i mean, if someone has some REALLY badly damaged body, like a leg in the wrong direction, then it’s MAYBE ok to cut something. but probably even then it’s better to try to fix it some other way first… it’s not just flesh and bones… and the genitals…
ah… brutal… :-{
such a person will be extraordinary anyway. so why not let Him/Her be as born? let Her chose His way.
